Amal Mulhem
Born in Damascus, Syria

Born in 1953 in Damascus, Syria, Amal graduated in Interior Architecture from Ecole des Beaux Arts, Damascus University, Syria. Amal Mulhem began her Art training in Syria in 1967. Her continuous studies took her to the Sorbonne University in Paris and further still to the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Montreal, Canada.

Her works are best described as Abstract Figurative, with her use of color and light producing a flowing movement in her artworks. When looking at Amal’s paintings, one cannot but notice the high sensibility in her creation, and strong sense of belonging to the world. She is an artist of the world, the people, and the masses. Amal observes, contemplates, and gets inspired by the world around her. The masses in her paintings are silent. Silent human clusters that dominate the painting, carrying plenty of words and feelings; all shapeless, all blending; everyone is thinking, feeling, hurting, meditating, rejoicing…awaiting an uncertain future. Global challenges that prevail over daily personal troubles create a type of inner resemblance for everyone and a harmony of color, light and shape that mirrors our current days. Despite our occupation with our lives there is still an inner element that dominates the space of the painting. In the darkest painting of Amal, there is always a glimpse of light as if put at the very last minute, a light that creates a strong contrast, and adds a feeling of hope.

Amal Mulhem’s works are in private and public collections.
