Fifth Season: Zaman Jassim

Courtyard Gallery showcased the works
of Saudi artist Zaman Jassim.
“Fifth Season” is perhaps the best way to
describe a collection of diverse stages and
experiences of Zaman Jassim’s art. It
represents a mix between the white which
dominates the artworks’ details and the
spaces of color which vary from warm to
fiery. It is also about the way different
materials work together to create a single
spirit and purpose to the artwork, which
Jassim had been working on for years.
The experiences of Zaman Jassim are
derived from cultural heritage, yet, with
an untraditional and non-imitating modern
flair.
Heritage is present in a different form. The
remnants of the past are not absent from
his work, albeit vanishing in some ways as
he goes about searching for the missing.
The Arabic letter is present in a different
way. It doesn’t have a certain meaning,
yet reflects a state of artistic harmony like
a spirit floating in space.”
